Benefits of Group Decision Support System
Group decision support system (GDSS) is essential to have in an organization to make sure that there is a collaborative decision-making process. It supports the process of group decision makers mainly by providing automation of subprocesses (e.g., brainstorming) and using information technology tools (Sharda et al, 2020, p. 624). Brainstorming in the team with diverse skills and scope pertaining business interest is crucial. One of the great aspects of GDSS is that it contains the built-in mechanisms that discourage development of negative group behaviors, such as destructive conflict, miscommunication, and groupthink (Sharda et al, 2020, p. 624). Instead of a single person making the decision which may involve higher level of personal influence that could be detrimental to the team development and ultimately for a healthy business policy. Group decision support system (GDSS) presents structure to the meeting planning process, which keeps a group discussion on track, although some applications permit the group to use unstructured techniques and methods for idea generation (Sharda et al, 2020, p. 624). Having a system for decision process brings the ultimate access to the external data and stored information that can be incorporated for an informed decision-making process. It also supports parallel processing of information and idea generation by participants and allows asynchronous computer discussion (Sharda et al, 2020, p. 624). The idea of having to sit down in the conference room frequently impacting the productivity is not ideal in today’s fast paced asynchronous work environment. It is important to have a system that the decision makers could collaborate with.
