Data Exercise 2
Data Exercise 4
Download this document to your computer and please read all directions carefully. This exercise is worth 15 points.
For Data Exercise 4, you will be using the same data you used in Data Exercise 2 on City of Los Angeles payroll information. The data are provided once again at this link . This exercise is designed as a follow on to the work you did in Data Exercise 2 and is aimed at having you transform data analysis in Excel into data visualizations and a presentation. You can continue to work in the groups you worked in before or, you can do this exercise individually.
In Data Exercise 2, you conducted analysis of the LA payroll data and answered the questions below:
1. How do benefits and salaries differ for employees across departments (mean, median)?
2. Are there any unusually large differences between lowest and highest employee salaries? You can compare across departments or across job classes.
3. How have salaries changed from 2013-2016?
4. Have the costs of benefits changed dramatically during the data collection period?
5. How do payments differ between quarters (i.e. Q1, Q2, etc)?
For this exercise, you will need to select at least two of the questions above and prepare a brief PowerPoint presentation with compelling visuals that highlight your analyses and results. Your PowerPoint presentation should be no more than 8 slides long. Be as concise as possible and make your graphics the focus of the presentation. Feel free to use a combination of charts and tables. Note, you should not have to do much more data analysis than was done for Data Exercise 3; I instead want you to focus on making powerful graphics for your data. If you are seeking inspiration for unique graphic types to incorporate in your slides, you may refer back to the Data Visualization Catalogue (also available in the Canvas module).
