Print media has been around for a long time. If it wasn’t for print media we would not have the access to other types of media today. “The forms and conventions of writing that the print media fostered have survived and even been confirmed and strengthened” (Stovall 97).
There is something about being able to hold a magazine, book or newspaper in your hand and flip the pages. Yes, technology has advanced and we now have access to all the same things right in the palm of our hands, with whatever new technological device we choose. However, the specific attractiveness I feel that print media has is being able to flip those pages.
Print media is now considered an expensive form of media, but it is still alive today. This gives people the option to either buy print or use the internet for their viewing. “Generally, smaller newspapers are doing better than larger ones because they are the most important advertising vehicle for the geographic area they serve” (Stovall 97).
There are so many things that the web journalism and the print journalism have in common. They both can generate the same news stories, with the same pictures, and the same words. They both can receive pieces from the community and the comment sections are accessible right away on the web. There is only one thing that sticks out in my mind that really attracts me to print journalism and that is the ability to hold those pages in my hand. There is something about being able to flip the pages of a book, newspaper or magazine that makes print media the best to me. While it has become costlier over time to run these printed stories, print media is not dead. It still holds a special spot in many people’s heart.
