According to the KWT chart, I believe the most knowledge I have is about the know how to demonstrate diversity in classroom by showing each child’s different art work to an idea given to them. I know that it is important in setting your classroom up with age appropriate toys, books, centers and instruments. As far as multiculturalism is concerned, I know multiculturalism is the “melting pot” where we come from all kind of ethnic backgrounds. Moreover, I know that in a multicultural society every child learns differently, comes from a different heritage and as an educator you must be aware of being bias. Talking about the topics which I have less knowledge are the things which create a better learning environment in the classroom that supports diversity, I have less knowledge about portraying ceremonial/ holidays in the classroom without labeling a person to be a certain way or look, moreover, I know less but willing to learn more on how multiculturalism is examined in the neighborhoods, parenting styles and general experiences that shape a child’s education. Lastly, I would like to learn how to create assignments that celebrate multiculturalism. These knowledges and the areas of gap affect my instructional practices as they are motivating and generating a sense of learning in both the student and in the teacher. By learning these, specially students will benefit a lot if we strengthened this skill and learning area.
