A Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides users with the online safety and invisibility by providing a private network from a public internet connection. VPNs use technology of masking the internet protocol (IP) addresses so, the browsing history and online performed actions cannot be traceable. The most key point for VPN is it establishes secure and encrypted connections for providing more security and privacy than even a secured wi-fi hotspot.

Why VPN service is needed?

Browsing the internet or doing any transactions over the unsecured wi-fi network means you are exposing your sensitive information and your browsing history. That is the reason virtual private network (VPN) should be mandatory for anyone who is concerning about their privacy and security. For example, when we are reading an email in the coffee shop or checking the banking information while waiting at the airport. Unless we are logged into a secure private network which contains password, any information processed through public network will be vulnerable to strangers and hackers. The anonymity & encryption that provided by VPN helps to protect the online activities such as sending emails, online shopping or paying bills. VPNs als help to secure web browsing patterns of individuals.

How IP address & Privacy are secured by VPN:

VPNs specifically create a data tunnel between the local network and exit node of another area, which could be miles away from the local network, which shows your network in different place. This helps for more freedom of online transactions.  VPNs use encryption to break data when it’s sent over a wi-fi network which makes data unreadable. When using a public wi-fi, data security is more important as it eradicates anyone else on the same network hacking your data and browsing patterns. There is some more privacy patterns followed by VPN, our internet provider can see entire browsing data without VPN. If VPN is enabled the search history is disabled. That is the reason the browsing activity is associated with VPN server IP’s address. A VPN service provider will have multiple servers around the world. Search Engines also track our search history, but they will associate with an IP address, here VPN will keep our data securely and privately.

In our organization, we use cisco vpns for connecting remotely to an organization network. With the help of VPN, the risk of security breaches and cyber attacks are very low. With the help of VPN, it encourages the productivity of employees as they cannot work during vpn connections when they’re travelling. When employees are working from home, it feels more secure to client when employees connect to their organization network through VPNs. VPNs are more affordable and provides lot of benefits from securing the organization data from the security breaches and cyber-attacks.

Virtual Private Network Evolution & Implementation

As we know that a virtual private network (VPN) gives us online privacy and anonymity by creating a private network from a public internet connection. VPNs mask your internet protocol (IP) address, so the online actions are virtually untraceable. Furtherly, VPN services establish secure and encrypted connections to provide greater privacy than even a secured Wi-Fi hotspot (Bhattari & Nepal, 2016). Surfing the web or transacting on an unsecured Wi-Fi network means could be exposing our private information and browsing habits. That is why a virtual private network, better known as a VPN, should be a must for anyone concerned about online security and privacy.

The encryption and anonymity that a VPN provides helps protect your online activities like sending emails, shopping online, or paying bills (Gupta, 2016). VPNs also help keep your web browsing anonymous about all the times you have been on the go, reading emails while in line at the coffee shop, or checking your bank account while waiting at the doctor’s office. Unless we were logged into a private Wi-Fi network that requires a password, any data transmitted during your online session could be vulnerable to eavesdropping by strangers using the same network (Mao et al., 2012).

VPNs essentially create a data tunnel between our local network and an exit node in another location, which could be thousands of miles away, making it seem as we are in another place. This benefit allows online freedom, or the ability to access your favorite apps and websites while on the go. According to authors (Singh et al., 2016) explained that VPNs use encryption to scramble data when it is sent over a Wi-Fi network. Encryption makes the data unreadable data security is especially important when using a public Wi-Fi network, because it prevents anyone else on the network from eavesdropping on your internet activity.

In conclusion, without a VPN our internet service provider can know the entire browsing history. With a VPN, our search history is hidden because our web activity will be associated with the VPN server’s IP address. A VPN service provider may have servers all over the world that our search activity could appear to originate at any one of them. Furthermore, the search engines also track your search history, but they will associate that information with an IP address.
