Due Date: 11:59 pm EST Sunday of Unit 6

Points: 100

Overview:

It is time to put your detective skills to work. In this assignment, you will write a brief

paper describing how you analyzed a suspicious email. The Hostinger website in this

unit’s resources will be helpful for this activity.

Instructions:

Select and research a free email header analyzer.

Using an existing email in your email inbox, locate the header of the email.

With the header analyzer you have researched, parse out all of the pertinent

information:

• What is the originating IP address?

• What is the service provider for the originating IP address?

• What is the recipient’s IP address?

• What time was the email sent?

Document the process you just conducted.

• List the steps you took in finding the email header.

• Describe the email analyzer you used to parse the pertinent information.

• Summarize your findings in a manner that can be understood by someone who is

not familiar with electronic investigations. It is common that investigators need to

explain complex processes in a concise manner to members of the jury at trial.
