Critical Thinking Assignment 1 Prof. Joshua Mackie

Read "Corn-Pone Opinions " by Mark Twain and "Jon" by George Saunders. Using feedback from our discussions and the workshop session, try to write a developed response to these two very different kinds of writing (Twain and Saunders) that focuses on your own view of how we form individual opinions and our own identity.

Questions to think about: How do we form our own self-image or identity? Is this even possible? How does the formulation of language relate to this? Your response can incorporate support from your own

experience and other outside sources. It should also make use of the readings. Remember that the core of what you have to say needs to stem from your own central idea. Take a position on the matter and support it the best you can, with as much concrete detail and explanation as you can muster.

This assignment should run about 2 pages in length.
