Course Description
This document is a summary of the content and the expectations of the Grade 12 University Chemistry being offered at Riverdale Collegiate Institute. It also describes how the final grade is achieved for the course. This course enables students to deepen their understanding of chemistry through the study of organic chemistry, the structure and properties of matter, energy changes and rates of reaction, equilibrium in chemical systems, and electrochemistry. Students will further develop their problem-solving and investigation skills as they investigate chemical processes, and will refine their ability to communicate scientific information. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of chemistry in everyday life and on evaluating the impact of chemical technology on the environment.

received reflects their own academic achievement.

e-Summer School Expectations
e-Summer School expects students to:
● It is expected that you log in once a day to check for updates as new material will be posted on a daily basis.
● Students are invited to attend the daily lessons in order to have a better understanding of the course material. If you can’t attend, recordings of lessons will be shared with you via Zoom meetings.
● Exhibit a respectful and courteous manner in the online classroom. ● Refrain from any inappropriate language or behaviour, in particular that which is
disruptive, profane, harassing, or intimidating. ● Follow board policy regarding plagiarism and accrediting sources. All assignments are to
be handed in on time. You must use the assignment dropbox when handing in assignments.
● Do not email me your assignments or tests as I cannot accept them. NO EXCEPTIONS. If the dropbox is closed I am not accepting assignments, as the ultimate due date has passed.
● Assignments must be submitted with a .pdf, .doc, .docx, or .jpeg file format.I cannot and will not accept file formats that are Mac/Apple specific suchs as .pages or .heic file formats.
● Expect that assignments will be reviewed for authenticity through TurnItIn.
Student’s responsibilities for submitting work for evaluation You are responsible for providing evidence of your learning within established timelines. There are consequences for not completing work, and/or submitting work late. A number of strategies may be used to help prevent and/or address late and missed assignments including involving parents/guardians. Ultimately, marks may be deducted for late/missed assignments, up to and including the full value of the assignment.
You are expected to submit assignments by the posted due date. If you are not able to meet the due date, you must speak to your teacher before the due date to discuss an extension.

Accommodations Students with IEPs or students who are or have been in an ESL program are allowed accommodations (such as extra time for example) on quizzes, projects as per Ministry Policy. Students are asked to remind the teacher in-advance of evaluations so accommodations can be programmed. Student should review the Student Handbook: Click Here
Due to the nature of the course, you should expect and plan to work on it for approximately 6 - 8 hours daily.
Final Exam: There is no face-to-face exam in e-Summer 2022

Assessment and Evaluation
Assessment: Assessment is regular and continuous and is used for the improvement of teaching
and learning and not for grade reporting. The purposes of assessment are to:
● Diagnose and track student progress & achievement;
● Provide feedback to students and parents/guardian about student progress and
achievement;
● To allow students to assess their own progress & achievement;
● To implement and improve instruction, curriculum and programs for all students.
Evaluation: Evaluation is varied and will be done on particular ‘chunks’ of work (after opportunities
for learning, practice and feedback). Where skills are developed throughout the course, there will
be an emphasis on the most recent and consistent achievement.
To promote student success, ongoing formative assessment and feedback will be given to students.
As required by the Ministry of Education, students will be assessed in the four areas of the
achievement chart. The chart below provides percentages for each category.
