Terrorist attack

Terrorism is something that has been going on for a long time. Many countries are involved in the terrorist attack around the world. As of now, people feel more unsafe because of continues attacks that have been occurring compare to the past. Thousands of people lost their lives during attacks, such as 9/11 and the recent Las Vegas shooting. The time period of these two attacks is long, but the motive is the same, which is to make United State week and kill people.

It was the morning of September 11, 2001 in New York City, where people did not even imagine something tragic was going to happen. Nineteen hijackers detained four U.S jets and crashed into twin towers. The attack was by Islamic terrorist group. The attack killed thousands of people and created much damage. The first plane crashed into the north tower first around 8:00 am, and, after fifteen minutes, another plane crashed into the south tower. People were so terrified after the second plane crashed, and that’s when they knew this was a terrorist attack. According to CNN, “Both 110 story twin towers collapsed in two hours” (CNN article). As those towers collapsed, the surrounding buildings caught fire and started collapsing as well. Part of the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia was destroyed with the third plane. The fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania. This was one of the most horrific terrorist attacks in U.S history. “As flames and smoke engulfed the towers, people raced to escape the buildings as police, fire, and medical personnel rushed to the site. About an hour after being struck, the south tower collapsed. The north tower collapsed about a half-hour later. Other buildings in the area were also destroyed or heavily damaged. The attacks left about 2,800 people dead or missing, including 157 on the two hijacked planes” (terrorist attack para.1). No matter the time period, some people will always be violent and harm others.

The details indicate that this attack involved nineteen people from the Islamic group al-Qaeda. The group target was big cities such as New York and Washington. The main purpose was to destroy the White House which luckily did not happen. Osama bin Laden was the leader of this Islamic group. Abu Walid al-Masri was the associate of bin Laden. Osama bin Laden thought America is one of the weak countries around the world so he decided to attack the U.S to make the country weaker. Khalid Sheik Mohammed was also the mastermind since he came to the United States and got his degree from North Carolina Agricultural Technical State University. After that, he went to Pakistan and joined the terrorist group. It has been a belief that the purpose of Khalid Sheik Mohammed coming to the United States was to make some big plans to attack U.S. later on. He also got killed in 9/11 incident. “Qa`ida leaders and associates were captured at different times and locations. Weeks before 9/11, Zacarias Moussaoui, a French citizen of Moroccan descent, was arrested in the United States on immigration charges” (terrorist attack para.2). After all the investigation, President Obama announced that he wanted Osama bin Laden captured alive or dead. He sends U.S navy seals to Pakistan on May 2, 2011. Eventually, he got killed at his hideouts and that’s when all the American who lost their lives on the 9/11 gained peace and made American reunited.

Comparing to 9/11, the other major event occured on 23rd September 2017 was the mass shooting in Las Vegas. Thousands of people at iheart Radio festival were enjoying the concert without knowing something tragic was going to occur in their life. Stephen Paddock was the main suspect in this mass shooting. He was 64 years old man from Mesquite, Nevada, who opened fired on route 91 harvest festival from the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay resort casino. More than 50 people died and hundreds left injured. People were shocked and surprise what was going on that time which they did not expect. Everyone was running all over the places where they can protect themselves. Police found 23 guns in the suspect room, and 20 more firearms, and explosives from his house.

The mass shooting left thousand people speechless when they find out that suspect had tons of guns and explosive with him. Every year, shooting is increasing. The shooting last year in Orlando was counted as one of the deadliest attacks in the U.S history, and now it goes to Las Vegas. The question is how come the law enforcement don’t know when a person owns more than 1 gun? The first step that needs to be taken care of is gun control. “Roughly 30,000 people are killed in the U.S. each year by guns—whether by accident, suicide, or homicide—according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A 2004 survey by the Harvard School of Public Health found that about 38% of U.S. households and 26% of individuals owned at least one gun, with about half of the individuals having four or more guns” (gun control para.3). This does not mean it needs to be taken away but there needs to be a strict background check before someone own a gun. People should get proper training before they own a gun. The stricter gun control will be the fewer lives will be taken away. From the Las Vegas shooting, police could not find the motive from the suspect since he killed himself in his room. The investigation is still going on in hopes the people who lost their lives will get the answer.

In conclusion, a terrorist attack will never stop until each and every person knows the meaning of peace. Instead of fighting and taking each other lives, people should treat each other equally which will create peace all around the world. Terrorist attacks will not make people weak, but it will help make them even stronger. 9/11, Las Vegas mass shooting and many more attacks taught Americans to fight. The positive aspect of it is that people get closer to each other during this situation. God gives one life to everyone, so everyone should live and let others live life instead of taking each other lives.
