The position that I am currently working in involves cosmetic dermatology and aesthetics, and I do feel that presently I am an opinion leader in the field that I work in.  I have had a couple of years of experience working with a dermatologist and plastic surgeon, and I could say that both physicians would heavily rely on my expertise in terms of cosmetic laser treatments and dermal fillers.  Since I have over 12 years of experience in working with aesthetic treatments  and lasers while the physicians had more of the medical perspective, when either had questions about settings and/or treatments they would heavily rely on my opinion or expertise.  The textbook defines opinion leaders as "clinicians who are identified by their colleagues as likeable, trustworthy, and influential...they must be generous with their time and giving their expertise" (Hamric & et. al., 2014, p.277).

At the current practice that I work in, I am the Aesthetic Director and my job description is that of a leader.  I do train and mentor new aesthetic nurses that join the practice.  The physician also sends me to aesthetic conferences all over the country for learning the latest in advancements in Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine, then I do bring that knowledge and research back to the practice.  It helps that my first degree is a Business degree, and I have taken a lot of leadership and management courses that have helped me in my leadership roles.  I also feel that is imperative for all Advanced Practice Nurses to stay abreast on the latest medical advancements, evidenced based research and take leadership courses.  Since the APN is technically the "advanced" nurse, those in the healthcare settings will be seeking out answers for various questions from the APN.
