COMM 304 Group Presentation

Due Date: Presentation dates will span from 11/25 to 12/2 (groups will be randomly assigned a date within this range)

Purpose: To take an opportunity to learn more about a country you’d like to visit some day. (India)

Instructions: In groups of 4-5, you are to select a country your group would like to visit some day and develop a 20-minute presentation by which you teach the class your findings. This presentation is research-based and must back any claims made about a country with credible, academic sources (preferably from the Library Database, although sources may be pulled from elsewhere, such as Google Scholar or .edu and .gov websites). You are required to verbally cite five total academic sources in the presentation.

The project must explore/identify the chosen country’s:

· Language(s) spoken

· Dominant religion(s)

· Customs and traditions

· Norms and practices when it comes to verbal and nonverbal communication (in other words, what advice would you give your classmates when it comes to their communication behaviors in this country? Are there any taboos to avoid? Are you able to link this country to any of the Hofstede or Tromepenaars & Hampden-Turner dimensions?)

This project may, if you wish, also explore:

· Cuisine

· Currency

· Interesting facts

· Any other information that might be helpful when traveling to this country

Please note:

· Every person in the group must have a speaking part in the presentation (of roughly equal amount) so 4 minutes each

· Every person in the group is responsible for contributing at least one academic source

· A PowerPoint presentation is required during the presentation

· A reference page is required as the last slide in the PowerPoint in APA format

Frequently Asked Questions:

· How do I verbally cite academic research in the presentation? Just like you would in an APA formatted paper; you will reference the authors and the publication year. If there are two authors, list both last names. If there are three or more authors, use the first one’s last name followed by the phrase (and others).

· Are we turning in a written component? No, however, you will email me a copy of your PowerPoint.

· Are we allowed to bring notecards up with us? Yes, however, it’s expected that you are not reading your material to the class; we should rehearse to ensure we know the topic well enough to speak freely about it.

My advice to you:

· Take this assignment seriously. What you teach your classmates may be the only thing they come to know about the country you chose. If you present them with incorrect information, they may carry that with them for a long time to come. Please fact-check your information.
