short discussion
This exercise will have you analyzing a number of different news sources of your choosing to identify and evaluate the claims contained within.
Initial Post
Select any two news stories from the “Current Events” thread. If none of these catch your attention (or, no one's posted any), you may pick your own. Please have it be a relatively current event (occurring within the last year, at least. In your initial post, please include the following:
1) The key claims of the piece that you read (indicate if they are claims of fact, value, or policy and why you believe so)
2) Evaluate the strength of this source based on either tests of evidence by Verlinden, or the CRAAP test
3) Finally, assess the overall strength of the source: Do you think that overall, it presents a strong argument or not? Why or why not?
Responses
Read over at least 1 article from one of your peers. Indicate the following:
Discuss any claims not mentioned by your classmates (if it's a fact, value or policy argument)
Pick the position opposite of your classmate's final assessment: In other words, if they say it's a strong source, indicate reasons in which is might be a weak argument overall, or vice versa.

The key claim of this article is to show to willingness of Taiwanese's government to defend themselves. To send a message to China and tell them that they will not give up easily.

In these two other sources shows the statistics of the willingness for Taiwanese citizens to defend themselves if China is trying to invade Taiwan. The first source was the government that claims that "Will fight to the very last day", and the two other sources provides evidence for it by gathering statistics of the willingness for Taiwanese citizens to fight for their country.
I believe the strength of the source is strong and it does presents a strong argument and statement, because from statistics we can clearly see that over the years the percentage of the people that are willing to fight increases after the government have made the statement that they "will fight to the very last day".
