You must pay attention to the level of measurement for all projects.

A codebook will contain all possible variables in a given data set. Read over the descriptive statistics and explore the data (i.e., the .sav) file in SPSS in order to learn more. This data is a subset of the GENERAL SOCIAL SURVEY (GSS) from around 2012. The data has been cleaned (e.g., many cases omitted from the “original data”) and the response categories edited for ease of use. Sample: n=744 Americans from who completed the GSS. Code Variable Description Response Categories

marital Marital status Married, Divorced, Single, etc.

sibs Number of sisters and brothers 0-99

childs Number of children 0-99

age Age of respondent 18-99

educ Highest year of education 0-99

sex Respondent sex 1=male; 2=female

race Respondent race 0=no; 1=white; 2=black; 3=other

partyid Political spectrum ID 1 to 7=Strong Rep to Strong Dem. 8=Other party

VOTE =08 Voted in 2008 Election 1=yes; 2=no; 3=ineligible

happy General happiness 1=very happy; 2=pretty happy; 3=not too happy

satfin Satisfaction with financial situation =satisfied; 2=more or less; 3=not at all

tvhours Hours per day watching TV 0-99

health1 R’s health in general Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor
