The impact that coaching has had on my life is remarkable. Every day, I try to amplify this impact in a way which allows individuals to experience the influence of coaching and recognize that their success has no boundary. Today, I can gladly say that I have been blessed with the privilege of working with amazing clients, which, in turn, have fueled me with constant motivation.
For me, coaching is a process of constant development; I always repeat and genuinely believe that coaching is for people who are already doing well, but aim to do better and reach further. In fact, most of the clients I had the chance to work with are either high potential individuals or people that are in a transition role, meaning they are in a phase of promotion and are looking for the best ways to succeed during these positive changes.
We tend to forget that there is a downside to being in a high position and that, unfortunately, it is often lonely at the top. Executives, in most cases, find themselves filling new positions while keeping previous beliefs and behaviors. In fact, skills might be easy to acquire, but change can be highly challenging and individuals end up unable to cope and adapt to the new environment. In that case, what they need is a different perspective and a helping hand to guide them through this phase. This is where coaching plays a big role.
My values in coaching are oriented towards results and I judge a coaching process by two things. By the end, if people are not aligned with their main drive or individuals are stuck in a position where coaching is not serving their big agenda, I consider that coaching has not fulfilled its ultimate purpose. I constantly challenge my clients and try to take them out of their comfort zone. This sometimes means I overly focus on results, but being aware of this allows me to rather constantly aim to consider and improve the person as a whole.
It is important to note that the best coaching happens between sessions and this is what makes a remarkable difference. When individuals take the time to self-reflect on insights and gain awareness, they will be able to focus on actions in a better way.
Finally, and most importantly, the fact that coaching comes with accountability and measurable results is what makes it so powerful. I highly believe in the power and resourcefulness of human beings and in the fact that people are natural learners and are self-motivated.
In a nutshell, coaching for me is transformation, not information.
