Group Project Ideas from a Classmate

Hello everyone! I am looking forward to working with everyone on the group project. I have attached the grading rubric to accompany the assignment. Im not seeing a slide count or directions for format, so I am all ears from someone more creative than I am!

Looking over the case study and rubric, it looks like there are some main points to touch on:

- summary of the case study

- poster development (through powerpoint?)

- group summary

- literature review

There is five of us, so if anyone else sees another aspect of the project that can be done, it would help even out the work. I will handle the summary of the case study and post a draft here later.

The main topic question: What were women’s experiences of seeking care after referral from public health nurse for probable post-partum depression, including responses to being referred, specific factors that hindered or facilitated care seeking, experiences seeking care, and responses to interventions offered?

P= 18  new mothers who are part of the Healthy Babies, Healthy Children initiative who agreed to home visits

I= 2 research assistants, semi structured telephone interviews, 4 weeks after screening or PPD with Edinburgh postnatal Depression scale (EPDS)

Barriers for seeking care: individual- individual symptomatology, health literacy, privacy concerns. Social: symptomatology and decreased health literacy of support group.  Health system level: feelings of inadequate treatment, lack of communication and scheduling

Facilitators for seeking care: Self-awareness of symptoms, encouragement of support group, normalizing the condition, outreach/ follow-up

Overarching themes gained from the study can be communication/interpersonal skills, active listening to patient concerns, need for education on symptomatology and treatment plans, healthcare team being aware of signs and symptoms of PPD, coordination of care
