CIS 302 – Project Part 1 (Create Company)

Project Part 1 is designed to set the stage for your audience, define who you are, and provide direction for the path you plan to take moving forward.  And perhaps if you have interest in starting your own business, this can be the catalyst to initiate that journey.

Part 1 Scenario:

Think about what you might like to do if you started your own Cyber Security or IT Services business. What type of services and/or products would you like to offer?  Make sure that you have more than one single area of expertise to provide some variety in your portfolio, but don’t have so many things going on that your business is overwhelming and lacks focus.

Part 1 Content / Tasks to be completed:

Task 1-1:

· Name your company.

  Task 1-2:

· List the services and/or products that you will provide.

  Task 1-3:

· Create three “branding” items for your company.  Examples of branding items include:

· About Us

· Company History

· Mission Statement

· Core Values

· Advantages

· Key Benefits

· Capabilities

· Expertise

· Here are some real-world company examples to provide inspiration for Task 1-3:

Part 1 Format & Length Requirements:

· Microsoft Word, written document – similar to a formal memorandum, executive summary or briefing. Submit ONE Microsoft Word document to include tasks 1-1, 1-2 & 1-3.

CIS 302 - Project Part 2 (Rough Draft)

Project Part 2 is designed to initiate a connection between the textbook theory you have gained from this course and the practical application of a real-world scenario. You will create a link between key focus areas of risk management and the services and/or products of your new company from Project Part 1.

Part 2 Scenario / Key focus areas:

As part of the business plan for your new company, you would like to create formal documentation to be shared with new clients that have limited IT/Cybersecurity knowledge and/or experience. Your goal is to provide more detail regarding the overall plan of attack as it relates to the services and/or products defined in Project Part 1, task 1-2. Due to the limited knowledge and/or experience of this client group, keep the content and tone of your documentation at an introductory level, to include basic principles and definitions.

You have identified 5 key focus areas (listed below) to address in the document, and have decided that it will serve as the initial strategy template for new clients.

1. Risk Assessment & Mitigation Plan

2. Business Impact Analysis (BIA)

3. Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP)

4. Business Continuity Plan (BCP)

5. Computer (or Cyber Security) Incident Response Team (CIRT)

Part 2 Content / Tasks to be completed:

Task 2-1:

· Provide an overall, general definition for TWO of the five focus areas listed above (similar to what you might see in a textbook).

· Choose any two focus areas for this task. What 2 items should you choose? You have a couple of options – choose the 2 items you are most interested in, choose the items already covered in previous weeks of our course, choose what you might like to learn more about, or…let’s be honest…choose your items based on what you think will be the easiest and/or quickest way to complete Project Part 2 (laugh, laugh).

Task 2-2:

· For the two focus areas chosen in task 2-1, add details by creating a link between the focus area and the specific services and/or products provided by your company. Outline and explain your customized plan that will satisfy the needs of your client. Give your client details on how you will help them with their risk management efforts.

· Here are some brainstorming topics to help you get started in this area. You don’t have to cover all of these items for each focus area. It will be too much for the scope of this project and they may not even apply to your company. Just choose a few to highlight as deemed appropriate. You are allowed to choose different topics from the list below for each of your key focus areas.

· Key Components

· People, Employees, Team Members

· Roles & Responsibilities, Accountability

· Process, Methodology, Approach

· Technology, Equipment, Facilities

· Money, Finances, Budget

· Schedule, Timeline

· Training, Hiring

· Communication, Status, Updates

· Tracking, Auditing, Follow-up

Task 2-3:

· Create a PowerPoint Presentation to summarize the information developed in Tasks 2-1 & 2-2. This presentation will be used for new client meetings/introductions.

Part 2 Format & Length Requirements:

Tasks 2-1 & 2-2

· Microsoft Word, written document – similar to a formal memorandum, executive summary or briefing.

· One page of length per focus area. This will help you practice concise writing, and keep the document short enough to encourage your new client to actually read it (smile). This means 2 pages of main content (focus areas), plus a cover page, plus a reference list page. Appendix material is allowed, but not required.

· Use single spacing instead of double spacing if necessary to fit each focus area on a single page. Utilize text headings, bold and/or italic typeface, white space, indentation or bullet points as necessary to improve your overall format and readability (especially important if you use single spacing).

· Submit ONE Microsoft Word document to include tasks 2-1 & 2-2 for the two focus areas chosen for task 2-1. Do not submit multiple documents.

Task 2-3

· Microsoft PowerPoint

· Create 2 slides for each of the two focus areas chosen for task 2-1.

· Slide #1: Summarize the definitions you created for task 2-1.

· Slide #2: Summarize the key points that you developed for task 2-2.

· Submit ONE Microsoft PowerPoint file to include the two focus areas. This means 4 slides of main content (focus areas), plus a cover slide. Reference list and appendix slides are allowed, but not required.

CIS 302 – Project Part 3 (Final Submission)

Project Part 3 brings us to the finish line!

Part 3 - What to do?

Task 3-1

· Repeat tasks 2-1 & 2-2 for the THREE items still left on the list of key focus areas (the items you didn’t cover yet).

Task 3-2

· Repeat task 2-3 for the THREE items still left on the list of key focus areas (the items you didn’t cover yet).

Task 3-3

· Consolidate your work to create complete documents for final submission. These final files should include everything – ALL work completed for Parts 1, 2 & 3 of the project.

· Document #1: Microsoft Word document – submit ONE file. Includes tasks 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 2-1, 2-2 & 3-1.

· Document #2: Microsoft PowerPoint presentation – submit ONE file. Includes tasks 2-3 & 3-2
