During the global recession of 2008 and 2009, there were many accusations of unethical behavior by Wall Street executives, financial managers and other corporate officers. An article dated February 10th, 2009 appeared in the Chronicle of Higher Education suggesting that unethical business behavior may in part be because cheating has become common among business students. In fact, at Bayview University, cheating has been a concern for several years. However, while some faculty members think cheating is worse at Bayview than elsewhere, others do not agree. To shed light on the matter, the Dean commissioned an exit survey to a sample of 90 business students as part of a study. A statistical summary on the data showed the proportions of male and female students involved in cheating. A hypothesis test was conducted to discover whether cheating was worse at Bayview than elsewhere. In this chapter, you'll learn about hypothesis testing, a statistical inference method that makes tentative assumptions about population parameters mainly a population mean and a population proportion.
