Chaplain Interview Instructions
You will conduct an interview with a sports chaplain (not affiliated with Liberty University) to inquire on the details of the role of the sports chaplain. You will then write a 2-page paper summarizing the interview. The following questions must be addressed:
A. What is it like to be a sports chaplain?
a. Qualifications and qualities
b. Years of experience
c. Teams for which he or she has been a chaplain
d. Time availability
e. Program format
f. Budget
g. Participation
h. Relationship with coaches
i. Typical messages—evangelistic or discipleship?
j. Beyond the chapel service what does he or she do to extend the ministry?
k. Is the ministry connected to a local church?
l. Is he or she a volunteer, paid staff, or part of a faith-based sports ministry?
B. What suggestions/helpful tips would the sports chaplain have for prospective chaplains regarding:
a. Getting started with a local high school team?
b. Educational preparation?
c. Biblical preparation?
