After learning about the development of the American government and political system (Chapter 6), answer the following question. Follow the directions carefully in order to receive full credit.
Chapter 6 Discussion Board Question:
After the Revolutionary War, Americans quickly started creating their own government and political system. From this emerged the first two political parties: the Federalists and the Republicans (Remember- the Republican Party that exists today is not the same Republican Party that existed in the late 1700s). If you were an American with political rights in the late 1700s, would you have supported the Federalists or the Republicans or neither?
Directions for Answering the Question:
1. Using information from the lecture/textbook, briefly describe the goals and platforms of the two parties: the Federalists and the Republicans. Make sure to explain what they thought about federal vs. state governments, what part of the nation and group of people the government should support and promote (cities vs. rural areas, merchants vs. farmers), and why the government should support and promote them.
2. Clearly identify which political party you would have supported or state that you would have supported neither.
3. Explain why you would have supported the party you identified or why you would not have supported either party. Make sure to include specific examples to support your position. You must connect this explanation to the political positions of the two political parties mentioned. (Do not for example just tell me that you liked the names of the political parties).
Important Rules for all Discussion Questions:
· You are only permitted to use information from the course textbook and my lecture to answer the discussion question. If you use information from any other source, you will receive a zero and will not be permitted to re-do the assignment.
· Fully explaining your statements will earn you a better grade. Don’t assume that I know what you’re talking about. Instead, pretend that you’re explaining your answer to someone who has no background in history.
· Include specific examples from the textbook or lecture whenever possible to demonstrate and better explain your statements (and thus earn a better grade).
· Explain all information in your own words. Do not quote or copy and paste from the textbook or the powerpoint or other student discussion posts. This includes quotes from historical figures stated in the chapter. Doing so will earn your assignment a zero.
· You may only post on the discussion board once per question, so make sure that your answer is complete and that you have proof read it before you hit the submit button. If you post more than one answer, I will only grade your first one.
· When you submit your answer, I highly suggest also saving it in a separate file (like a Word document, etc.). This will help you if you are faced with a technological issues.
