Read the following essay and identify the Introduction (mark with an “I”), the thesis (mark with a “T”), any proof points (mark with “P”s), and the conclusion (mark with a “C”). In addition, add a title, make any necessary changes (i.e., language usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.), do a word count and calculate the grade level at which it is written.

This past year my mother asked me what I wanted for my birthday. At first I wasn’t sure. I then replied I wanted either a cookie cake or a standard chocolate cake with vanilla icing. She gave me a confused look and clarified that she meant, what gift would I like for my birthday. I wasn’t able to think of any material objects I needed or longed for that year. My thoughts immediately turned to celebratory food. It’s almost pathetic how much I enjoy eating. A couple chocolate covered strawberries will make me much happier than an expansive new cell phone. I think about eating all the time. Knowing that I am going to eat a favorite dinner at night can brighten my entire day, I will always finish the food that is in front of me and I can somehow always find room for more. On occasion, I’ve tried to count calories but it has only brought me to one conclusion. The enjoyment I get out of a good margarita pizza exceeds the motivation, or even really, the desire, to be a size two. What this says about me, I’m unsure. I like to think it means the simple things in life can easily please me. Either way all I know for sure is that everything is better covered in chocolate.
