Take the point of view that you are a management consultant hired to help management sort out problems and causes, and use management principles (theory from the textbook) to improve the organization. Use information from the Lecture on Case Analysis and Lecture on Ethical Analysis. Fill in the Case Analysis with your assessment of the symptoms, causes, and theoretical (management) principles that help explain the symptoms and causes in the case. Then develop your conclusions, recommendations (based on theory) and assess your recommendations in detail using the Markkula app (Links to an external site.) . (Click the links above to download the case and the case-analysis worksheet.)
See the grading rubric ("Show Rubric"--click three-dots above right) for more detailed information. Seminars run Tuesday-Friday; read and prepare Sat.-Mon.
1. Sat.-Monday, prepare your worksheet analysis applying theories of management to the case problems to develop recommendations. 2. Copy and paste your worksheet in your first discussion post by Tuesday, 11:59pm. Do not worry about perfection! Do your best with this and strive to improve through the seminar conversation this week, showing you are learning as we discuss. 3. Weds.-Friday, (a) offer supportive criticism to others on how they can improve their worksheet analyses and (b) talk about what you have learned from others on how you could improve your own analysis.

The Week Ahead · This is a heavy reading week. See the list of readings, below. There is no seminar this week. · Introduction to Case Analysis · Seven Themes of Catholic Social Teaching · Ask questions (and answer if you know) in the Virtual Office this week. · Rely explicitly on the management principles in Carpenter et al. (2015). · Begin to develop your case-analysis worksheet for the Week 6 case seminar . This week we will focus a new skills for most students: case analysis in business, and ethical analysis using theories of ethics (philosophy) that assess the ethics of managerial decisions. A manager's primary role is to make decisions. When they do so with little regard for ethics, logic, or social justice, the organization and its people suffer. |
