2. Find a quiet place and spend one full hour without any external distractions (noise of any kind, your cell phone, etc.). Use the model from the Examen exercise to reflect on: what need, cause, or situation in “my world” do I feel a desire to do something positive about?

3. Proceed to write your reflection paper.

Prompt: Write a two-page essay in response to the following: Identify a need, cause or situation that “calls” to you to respond, to do something about. After describing the need, speak to how this need touches your authentic self. Then discuss two or three-character (LOVE, TEAMWORK) strengths that you will need to develop and make use of to take the action necessary for you to respond to that need.

Guidelines:

1. Essay Length: two-pages, double spaced, Times New Roman 12.

2. No Title Page: A title page is not required. Provide your name, the assignment and the due date at the top of the first page using the model below.

Your Name---Reflection Assignment # 1---January 24, 2018

3. Structure:

A. Introduction: inform the reader of the project you will write about in your paper.

B. Body: respond to each aspect of the prompt by providing evidence from the reading and your personal experience.

C. Conclusion: provide a brief summary of your major insight or learning.

N.B. Think, for example, about several issues that are in the press and media today: protecting students in school from gun violence, the call to end sexual harassment, concern about refugees or nuclear proliferation. While many people may feel these are important, what differentiates those who take action regarding these issues from those who do not take action? For those who do take action, what differentiates those who are leaders in various movements from those who are active, but in less public ways?
