A professional capstone project should highlight the areas in which you have gained proficiency in all your health care administration courses to date. With this in mind, you must select a topic that will address a health care barrier that is relevant to health care administration and does not focus on patient care, rather improving some focus of health care in a manner that may be accomplished, implemented, and evaluated by those in health care administration.
This capstone project will concentrate on the reduction of healthcare workers' burnout in a hospital environment by improving workload balance. Healthcare worker burnout has a significant impact on worker morale, productivity, absenteeism, turnover and workforce stability, and is a serious problem in healthcare organizations. Heavy workloads, long shifts, and staff shortages lead to physical and emotional exhaustion in healthcare workers especially nurses.
A hospital setting would be most likely to benefit with this proposal because employees often work under high stress and demanding conditions. When workloads become unbalanced, healthcare workers experience burnout, increased absenteeism, and higher turnover rates. Hospitals are under a lot of pressure, run a long shift, have limited staffing, and a growing patient load, all which increase employee risk of burnout. Improving workload balance may help create a healthier environment and improve staff stability at work.
This project will focus on exploring options for minimizing burnout by improving staff models, flexible scheduling, reducing excessive overtime, balancing patient assignment and monitoring employee workloads. It is the responsibility of health care leaders and human resource departments to implement these strategies. The goal of this project is to reduce burnout and improve employee satisfaction by creating a more balanced and manageable workload for healthcare workers. Outcomes may be measured through employee satisfaction surveys, overtime records, absenteeism rates, and turnover data before and after implementation.
