CAFR and NFP – Papers or CCR reports; Power Points

1. Select a CAFR from a municipality in your area. Present it in a discussion for approval.

Your CAFR may be at the local or state level.

2. Select a not-for-profit (NFP) entity. Find the audited financial statement report and the

IRS form 990 and present them for approval in the discussion forum.

the most recently available form 990.

3. Write a brief paper on the CAFR and a separate paper on the NFP. Relate topics from our

textbook to your entity. Our discussion postings should assist you in completing your

deliverables. The CAFR is your main resource for your government entity and the

audited financial report and form 990 are your main resources for your NFP.

Either or both papers may be replaced with a Citizen Centric Report (CCR). Refer

to www.agacgfm.org for information on the CCR. A CCR is a 4 page document

summarizing information and creating a presentation for citizens and other stakeholders.

A paper should be three to four pages, single spaced (double spaced between

paragraphs). You may add graphics from your source document but limit this to no more

than 50% of your space (i.e. a four page paper with no more than two pages of graphics,

total.

4. Prepare a Power Point presentation based on each paper to post in our discussion for

discussion and comments. Submit only the papers in the assignment folders. The Power

Point presentations will be posted initially only in the discussion. Note the separate due

dates for each item: the CAFR paper, the NFP paper, and the two Power Point

presentations. This is a total of 4 documents, 2 for the municipality/state and 2 for the

NFP. After the discussion you should submit your CAFR and NFP Power Point

presentations. For this reason you will find four separate items in the assignment folder:

CAFR_Paper; NFP_Paper; cafr Presentation; nfp Presentation. * The presentation

should be no more than 10 slides.

** All documents for our class require a Works Cited Page. A paper also requires APA

format for citations in text.

5. Each paper (CAFR and NFP) should be three to four pages in length plus the works cited page. Relate topics from our textbook to your entity. Our discussion postings should

assist you in completing your deliverables.

6. Rather than a paper you may create the four page CCR report based on your selected/approved government entity and its CAFR and a separate four page CCR report

based on the annual report and IRS form 990 for your selected/approved NFP

organization. If you select the CCR option, you may copy and paste material from the

source documents (CAFR, Government Entity Web Site, NFP web site, NFP annual

report, and NFP IRS Form 990). Be selective as you create the ‘story’ you seek to tell.

Use the resources of the AGA and design guidelines. You may draw on your CCR to

prepare the Power Point report to supplement the information you present from the actual

financial statements to illustrate your mastery of topics and concepts from our class on

financial reporting.

7. Four deliverables:

1. Government Entity CCR or paper

2. Government Entity Power Point presentation (post in discussion for peer review; then post final version in assignment folder for grading based on due dates)

3. NFP Entity CCR or paper

4. NFP Entity Power Point presentation (post in discussion for peer review; then post final version in assignment folder for grading based on due dates)
