This assignment addresses the following CORU Proficiencies:

2.12 Understand the need to work in partnership with service users, their relatives/carers (if appropriate) and other professionals in planning and evaluating goals and interventions, as part of care planning and be aware of the concepts of power and authority in relationships with service users.

5.1. Know, understand and apply the key concepts of the domains of knowledge which are relevant to the profession.

All four questions are mandatory- please note the choices within each question.

Question 1:

Chose one of the following households:

(1) Sole parent

(2) Same sex

(3) Blended Families.

Discuss the demographic changes in Ireland in the last several decades in relation to this type of family. Include census figures, legislative and social policy changes in your discussion.

Question 2:

Choosing either separation/divorce or domestic violence, describe the impact of this on both adults and children in a family affected. Outline the role of a social care worker in working with and supporting this family. Support your answer with relevant literature.

Question 3:

In Ireland, there are several assessment frameworks used in working with families where there are child protection concerns. Choosing one of these frameworks, outline the key principles and tools used in the assessment. Describe the role of a social care worker in working with a family (both adults and children), and with other multidisciplinary professionals, in completing the assessment.

Question 4:

One of the key aims of the Growing Up in Ireland Longitudinal Study (2020) is:

“ to identify the persistent adverse effects that lead to social disadvantage and exclusion, educational difficulties, ill health, and deprivation”.

Critically examine the impact of social inequality in Ireland on a specific group of children. Examples would include:

(1) Children who are living in homeless accommodation

(2) Children from a disadvantaged group e.g. travellers, asylum seekers.

Support your discussion with relevant policy and practice documents.
