Netflix faces many issues in regards to ownership, ethics, and social responsibility. The issues they face are mostly namely, patent issues, corporate espionage, and employee “poaching” (Lovely, 2020). This is nothing new to netflix as they have been dealing with this for 24 years. Social responsibility is defined as the concern of businesses for the welfare of society as a whole. Strategies for CSR are for the company to make a positive impact on the environment and stakeholders. So for the case of Netflix, they need to continue to think of creative ideas that will benefit their customers. If one of the issues they are having is dealt with by the media then they have to make sure that all the copyrights are legal, that there are no issues with those, and they are not advertising shows or movies that they are not allowed to. Companies like Netflix need to be careful, because some LLC’s or corporations will see that Netflix came out with an idea, but say that they did the same thing before them. Even with being sued, some solutions that Netflix has been implementing is that they change their credits. This was done for “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina '' when they were sued by the Satanist (Lovely, 2020). Therefore, when going through these types of issues, research definitely has to be done. Certain connections needs to be made so then lawsuits can be avoided, even for the smallest of issues. Making sure that if a Netflix original is being produced, certain props do not look too similar to others, or that the idea was not based off books that have been published for years. Lastly, Netflix will need to cover themselves more and prepare for when their brand is being used because there was a lawsuit against them, that a mother sues Netflix because her daughter got pregnant after a “Netflix and Chill” (Lovely, 2020).
