Book Review Rubric Formatting Basics (20 points)

• Was your paper 2-3 pages in length (and 2 at a minimum)? • Double-spaced and in a reasonable 12-point font? • Does it have an introductory paragraph and a conclusion? • Organized into clear paragraphs? • Submitted on time?

Thesis (15 points)

• Does your paper have a clear thesis about the chapter you’re

reviewing? • Is your thesis a positive critical analysis of your chapter?

Substance (45 points)

• Did you use material from the chapter to support your thesis? • Is it clear that you read and thoughtfully considered your chosen

chapter? • Is your review an analysis of your chapter, as opposed to a summary?

Sources and Citations (15 points)

• Does your paper use and properly cite evidence from your chosen

chapter? • Was the same citation style consistently used, and used correctly? • If you used any outside sources, are they properly cited?

Copyediting (5 points)

• Is your paper free of spelling and grammatical errors? • Was it proofread for consistency and small mistakes? (These things

matter! Your writing represents you. That includes things like apostrophes, capitalization, and commas.)
