BLOG PLANNER Blogs are an increasingly popular means of connecting with readers, and many traditional media operations have embraced them. Here are a few differences between writing for traditional media and blogging.

• Traditional journalism is formal, but blogging is informal. • Traditional journalism is dispassionate, but much of blogging is passionate. • Traditional journalism is written in the third person (he, she, they), but much of blogging

is written in the first person (I, we). • And while most traditional writing is vetted by multiple editors, much of blogging goes

straight from writer to reader. So, the best blogs are conversational, full of information and engaging to readers in ways that are fun, provoke discussion and even start arguments.
