Graded Assignment – ANALYSIS PLAN

Directions:

· Please submit your DATA ANALYSIS PLAN via CANVAS, by May 1,2021 at midnight.

· The completed assignment should be no longer than three pages, single spaced, 10- to 12-point font PLUS the table shells and figures.

· Long, detailed answers are not expected. Brief, bulleted explanations are recommended.

· Your analysis plan should be based on the dataset you are using for your final assignment. In the beginning section of your assignment please provide background information on your dataset. The requirements for this information are listed below.

· The analysis plan will detail your research aim, hypothesis, data management steps and analysis you plan to do, including the dummy tables.

· Each part (subsection) will be awarded up to 20 points—graded based on relevance to data management generally and to the specific aspect of data management described in the section. The rubric for each part is detailed below.

· You are not required to describe more than is specifically asked for in a section.

Assignment structure: Please structure your assignment with the following sub-headings (in bold). Dataset information

· Please provide the name of the dataset year, organization that collected the data, place(s) where data collected, link to dataset or upload dataset to CANVAS if there is no link available, and link to supplementary materials where information about data management can be found (including the data collection tool).

· NOTE: this section is worth 0 points, but your assignment cannot be graded without this information.

1. Research aim and questions – 20 points

· Please detail your overall research aim. This is one sentence and summarizes the scope/purpose of your analysis.

· Please detail three (simple) research questions—these should be questions answerable by descriptive univariate analysis, bivariate analysis, or stratified bivariate analysis. These are the specific questions you will want to answer with your analysis.

· At least one of the questions should have a testable hypothesis. For any question where you will conduct hypothesis testing, you should detail the null and alternative hypotheses.

2. Inclusion and exclusion criteria – 5 points

· Detail which observations from your dataset will be included and which will be excluded.

3. Variables to be used in the main analysis – 25 points

· List and define 5 to 10 variables you will use to answer your research questions.

· For each variable, detail the codes for each of those variables as they exist in the dataset and how you will format or code them for analysis.

4. Univariate data analysis – 15 points

· Describe the univariate analysis you will do.

· This should include a descriptive analysis of your study population (overall or by study groups) and any exploratory analysis you will do to assess central tendency or otherwise determine distribution of variables. 5. Bi-variate data analyses – 15 points

· For each research question detail the variables you will compare, including whether you will do any stratified analyses of those comparisons and what statistical tests or analysis you will run.

· You must plan at least one correlation analysis (linear relationship between two continuous, discrete or ordinal variables), one regression analysis, and test at least one bivariate hypotheses.

6. Table shells (annex) – 20 points

· Include at least three table shells and figures: 1) descriptive analysis to characterize your summary population; 2) one table each to summary the bivariate analysis for your research questions (2 to 3 questions). If you plan to present a histogram, box plot, correlation plot, or other figure, please list and provide details
