The objective of this paper is to select and evaluate the procedures and effectiveness of the communication throughout a company amongst the Fortune 500 firms. I had chosen the company Cisco Systems, Inc. Cisco is ranked 64 within the Fortune 500, which is considered relatively high.
Audit of the communication environment of Cisco
As one of the major network service providers globally, Cisco maintained a conscious culture across the world that adapts perfectly to the workforce environment. As part of the on-boarding process at Cisco, potential workers are guaranteed a COBC certificate which informs and prepares them for a professional workplace. The training approaches the workers’ rights and boundaries thoroughly within the company.
It provides its users with the latest and greatest Cisco Collaboration technologies, facilitating technology adoption and utilization through the ACE team, the largest parallel IT Network to Cisco Production.
Cisco managed to layout several platforms for the company employees to conduct meetings, write blogs and ask technical questions.
Tools such as WebEx and Community.Cisco.com added plenty of room for employees to share their knowledge and cooperate with co-workers and clients.
As the company became a world provider for services and programs it certainly equipped its own base with advanced systems to provide professional software for its own employees and many other companies. Each month, Over 130 million professionals rely on WebEx to conduct meetings and exchange documents worldwide.
WebEx is a simple tool that provides a solid platform for professionals to rely on and connect with their peers and partners. “ WebEx offers a comprehensive virtual meeting application providing simultaneous screen sharing and live video streams, polling options, whiteboard, chat and document sharing.” The flexibility of communication through WebEx can save time and money by eliminating the need to travel for work meetings. https://crln.acrl.org/index.php/crlnews/article/view/9265/10318 ( above quotation)
Virtual reality conferencing allows a company to boost its productivity and enhance internal connections among employees. As computer technology advances Cisco is always there to embrace its opportunities. Remote working is becoming the norm of modern life. It helps workers maintain a healthy work-life balance, cuts spending budget for companies and eventually benefits our environment through less commuting and more connection.
Cisco’s remote hiring enables more people to work from the comfort of their homes and this helped the company save an annual $277 million in productivity. Plus, workers believe that it increases their productivity and improve their lifestyle balance overall.
Unfortunately, the distant working system has its drawbacks. Based on the 2018 State of Remote Work, loneliness is the main struggle to working remotely. Human beings are naturally social. To truly feel a sense of belonging in our communities we need to connect through verbal and non-verbal communication. As one of the world-leading companies, Cisco approached this phenomenon consciously to enhance the mental health of its workers. Cisco developed numerous programs such as #SafeToTalk, Friday Socials on WebEx, partnering with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and various other programs, the “brain” is literally on the brain.

Recommendation
I believe there is still plenty of room for Cisco Sytems to improve the lifestyle of their remote workers. An obvious factor of remote workers' concern is feeling a sense of belonging which can be solved by providing common work areas or lounges for remote workers to visit from time to time. Being able to network in-person with other co-workers will also maintain a synchronized rhythm of work achievements.
Another factor in reducing employees’ loneliness is to allow them to share their personal achievements and to be recognized not only on the web but also in person. This can be achieved through annual ceremonies or monthly meetings with co-workers. Consistent recognition will ultimately enhance the performance of an individual within the company and surely boost
