Figure 1: Bayonne Packing Casual Loop Diagram

Analysis of the case of Bayonne revealed that the company had been experiencing major sales due to their company's effective packaging techniques. The initial problem that the company faced was the world's digitization. This caused consumers to shift their preferences and adopt new methods of operating. Bayonne's president noticed more issues where customers were not satisfied with the quality of products and the timeliness of delivery. The company conducted a proper analysis where the 5-why tool is applicable since Milken's analysis revealed why the company experienced its problems. It was discovered that lack of proper management of fold, finishing, glue, scheduling, and sales departments were the main causes of problems in the company. The analysis majored on the quality of goods since improper production led to customers' dissatisfaction. '

Further analysis reveals an answer to the why question relating to the cost of production. The company had attempted to minimize the cost of producing goods while still aiming for high quality. The company's fold & glue department experienced issues of delivery of goods to customers. This issue occurred due to a lack of proper coordination between different departments. The department manager for fold & glue complained of late communication of orders. This resulted in a large workload on the department since they already had pending orders. Bayonne further experienced issues when it attempted to implement different business operations concurrently. The company's lack of proper management caused departments to work independently. This caused last orders and operational issues.

Analysis of the scheduling department revealed that their operation method resulted in a decrease in the quality of the products. Whenever there were production issues, it was the responsibility of the scheduling department to inform the sales department of such problems. The plant scheduler revealed that they ignored that policy as they avoided getting admonished by other departmental heads. This move was inappropriate in the professional environment since it was the beginning of a lack of providing customers with required orders.

It is imperative to propose solutions to Bayonne's issues. The first applicable proposal is the setting of transparent rules of operation (Atchison, 2020). The causal loop diagram indicated the primary issues of Bayonne, which have been discussed above. Lack of proper guidance and regulations caused the company's departments to lack collaboration. The best method to avoid the issues displayed by Bayonne is adequate training for all members of departments. This would ensure each person understands their role effectively.

Another tactic of improving a company's packaging department is to host team-building sessions (Atchison, 2020). In the case of Bayonne, the company's departments viewed other departments and leaders as competition. This is improper since a professional environment is filled with diverse personalities, and the role of each person is to promote a company's overall productivity. Hosting team-building initiatives would encourage the building of relationships between employees. The ambiance of the activities would be filled with fun and memorable moments. The issue of employees being rude to each other would be scrapped out.

Asking for feedback is an effective way of improving company operations (Atchison, 2020). The main issue of late delivery at Bayonne occurred due to a lack of communication between the departments. Instead of giving clear information concerning any expected lateness, the departments increased workload. It is vital to encourage departments to submit feedback during any shared operations at all times so that company operations would not be affected at any point.
