Directions:

· Download the Module 5 Exercises Template in the Module Assignments Area.

· Type your name in the cover sheet.

· Type the date submitted (example: August 1, 2017).

· For each heading (example: Leadership Behaviors) there is a sentence in the Module 5 Exercises Template to prompt you. Type directly over that sentence to follow the formatting.

· Your paper should follow APA format, and should be in your own words. Any content you take from a source must be inside quotation marks and must be cited in-text (author, date).

· In APA formatting, you are not permitted to use “I.” Instead, you must be an independent researcher. Say, “the organization” or “the salesperson,” not “I would.”

· You should list the references you used to develop your paper.

Leadership Behaviors

a. Research a leader that you believe uses either directive leadership, supportive leadership, participative leadership, or achievement-oriented leadership (page 396). Describe the leader, and explain why you think the leader uses either directive leadership, supportive leadership, participative leadership, or achievement-oriented leadership by describing the leader’s history of behavior and decision-making. Use chapter concepts and terms to defend your position. Answer in 7-10 sentences. SMART Goals

a. Research a job description that you would like to have (it cannot be a job description you have used for previous exercises). Evaluate the job description based on Goal Expectancy Theory (pages 413-414). Describe the job description, and explain how the individual who accepts that position could be motivated by Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Results-Based, and Time Specific (SMART) goals, using chapter concepts and terms to defend your position. Self-Managed Teams

a. How might self-managed teams operate differently in different cultures? What are the advantages, disadvantages, and implications of homogeneous versus highly self-managed teams? Conflict Styles

a. Research an organization of your choice. Create specific examples of how a manager in that organization could use each of the Conflict Management Strategies of avoiding, competing, compromising, collaborating, and accommodating. Describe the company, and explain how a manager could use each of those strategies, using chapter concepts and terms to defend your position. Answer in 7-10 sentences. Management Strategy Assessment:

Review the section on Organizational Communication (pages 484-490). Pick a publicly-traded company of your choice (meaning that its stock is traded on a stock market), and research how that company communicates with Wall Street and the media, and how analysts in the media communicate with viewers. What concepts from the chapter apply, and how can a university student become a more astute consumer of such information? Describe the company, and explain your answer using chapter concepts and terms to defend your position. Answer in 7-10 sentences.
