|
|

|
|
CL04: Critically reflect on the relationship between management theory and management research evidence and communicate your knowledge of responsible management practices.
|
Research task:
Your group will research how a manager or leader manages teams in an organisation. Identify, contact, and interview a manager or leader to determine how s/he encourages or supports staff to work in teams.
Your group will ask the manager the following key questions:
1. What formal or informal training have you had as a manager to manage work within a team?
2. How do you encourage staff to work in a team and why is this important?
3. In your opinion what is the value of working in a team?
Rationale: Why is this important?
The contemporary workplace is diverse and complex requiring effective and responsible management plus teamwork skills. Teamwork assignments such as this one will allow you to develop skills required to successfully negotiate, delegate, contribute to and lead a successful team.
Assignment task:
Working with a group of 4-5 students, you will research and analyse responsible management principles and practices. Your team will develop a presentation outlining your research and analysis to present to an audience. The format of your presentation is to follow the Pecha Kucha model of 20 slides for 20 seconds each. Given the limited number of slides, material on your slides must contain analysis and evidence, rather than decorative images. Sources of material used should be listed alongside your academic sources on your reference slide.
Use a PowerPoint template to prepare your presentation of 20 slides + 1 slide for references. Your presentation must include:
· Background of the organisation and outline of your presentation
· Description of the manager's role, including the level of authority, and what experience they have managing people
· Summarise your findings
· Identify key theories to which your research links and why you believe theory is relevant in describing this management style
· Outline the recommendations your team would make to the manager/leader to improve the way in which they manage in organisations
· Provide a theory-based rationale for why you think this approach, if implemented, would improve the employee experience
Duration of Presentation
6 minutes per group. Make sure to automate the advancement of your slides so your presentation does not run over time.
Feedback
Presentation feedback will be provided by your tutors on Canvas.
