ASSIGNMENTOBJECTIVE.docx

ASSIGNMENT OBJECTIVE : This is a two-part report:

· write up a report on a photographer ( W. Eugene Smith ).

· prepare a 5-6 minute oral presentation based on the information you have found.

Both parts should show that you gathered the important information below and put it in your own words; do not copy information from sources. If you want to use someone's exact words, use them in a quote and credit them right after the quote (name and title of the person you are quoting). Remember that the universal rule is that you cannot copy more than three consecutive words from the source. Your oral presentation should be equally original.

PROCEDURE :

After you research your photographer, type up a report in complete sentences, responding to each question in the numbered format as they are listed below. (See word count at the end of each question.)

1. What is the photographer's name and where did/does she/he currently live, work? (25 words)

2. What is the photographer's specialty/concentration? Include information about technique (light, composition, etc.) and content. (150 words)

3. What societal and cultural issues have influenced the photographer's work? (150 words)

4. What impact has the photographer's work had on society? (150 words)

5. How has the photographer's work influenced the photographic/artistic medium, including the work of fellow photographers and other artists)? (150 words)

6. What is your opinion of his/her work? (100 words)

Include at least three sources showing where you found your information (include the relevant sources at the end of each numbered section).

· Name of article, book, etc.

· Website address or name of other location.

The oral presentation should be showing at least 20 images Took it by a photographer ( W. Eugene Smith ).

Here are the important requirements for image presentation for your oral report:

1. One picture per slide, that is, don't show a collage of pictures on one slide; this makes the pictures too small and diminishes their effectiveness. Each picture should be appreciated in its own space!

2. Find the highest image quality you can. If you cannot pull an image directly off of a site, get the link to the image. You can also go to the library to find books about ( W. Eugene Smith ). You can use your iPhone or camera to copy photographs out of the books, just make sure you are working with plenty of light that is evenly spread across the image (no shadows in this case!)

3. Show a wide representation of the photographer's work. Don't capture the first 20 pictures you find. Study her/his body of work and then choose pictures that best represent her/his career. Use pictures that connect effectively with what you are presenting in your oral report.
