Objective

This assignment requires you to write a 700-word essay. The objective of this assignment is to demonstrate your knowledge of what you have learned so far on management environment and relate it to businesses.

In chapter two in your textbook: The Management Environment, p. 59, you will find Exhibit 2.1. This exhibit provides an overview of the external organizational environment. The outer layer of the external organizational environment consists of sociocultural, technological, economic, political/legal, demographics, and global conditions in which organizations operate. We also looked at stakeholders and the influence they have on organizations.

More information about each of these conditions will be found on pages 59-69 and p. 64-65 of your textbook.

Assignment Task

· You are required to select a company from any country. It could be local or international.

· Analyze in depth the company’s environment along the lines of stakeholders. In particular: Customers, Competitors, Suppliers, Shareholders, Government, Pressure Groups.

· Discus how factors of the external environment mentioned in Exhibit 2.1 have influenced management decisions within your chosen company.

* Discuss : To investigate and present the different aspects of a problem or subject, usually in support of a position or argument.

Your essay must define key terms such as external environment and the specific factors you choose. The essay should also introduce the business/company you chose and give the reader a basic idea about it.

Your essay must have a minimum of three scholarly citations and references in addition to your textbook (i.e. a minimum of three references in total).

Note: Where to find information? The companies’ websites, annual reports, newspaper and magazine articles and other publications will help you to do your analysis.

References

You will need to examine and cite at least 3 other scholarly sources in addition to the textbook as part of this assignment. Scholarly sources include journal articles and books sourced from the YU Library, the YU online article database, and/or Google Scholar.

You may also use extra non-scholarly citations to support your argument, however you must be aware of the credibility of your sources. For example, a government website is likely to be a credible source, but many commercial websites (ending with a .com address) will not be regarded as credible sources (you may, however, cite your chosen business'

website).

Please note that Wikipedia is generally not accepted as a credible source to use as a reference in an academic essay. If Wikipedia is a useful starting point, by all means use it, but wherever possible, be sure to find and cite the original source of the information.

You will be marked on the quality and quantity of credible sources you use and how effectively you use the APA referencing style, so paying attention to these matters will make a difference to your grade.
