Assignment Guidelines

There are many handy software tools available for designing and visualizing enterprise models and so many languages and standards to consider. However, ArchiMate is a great place to start, offering an approachable open source alternative available across many different tools and platforms. For a little background information, check out  What is ArchiMate? (Links to an external site.)

In this lab, you’ll be using Archi (you may use an alternative drawing tool if you wish, but email your instructor for approval first). To get started, visit  Archi - Open Source ArchiMate Modelling (Links to an external site.)  and click “Download”. Select the appropriate version for Windows/Apple/Linux.

The objective of this lab is to use ArchiMate to represent an existing enterprise architecture. First, select a  Fortune 500 company. (Links to an external site.) :

Next, in the modelling tool, create three distinct models that showcase the three primary layers respectively: business, application, and technology.  This ArchiMate tutorial (Links to an external site.)  provides an example of each layer. Using this tutorial as a reference, create your models to showcase the processes, elements, systems, and stakeholders that are involved with your selected company.

When you are finished, copy all three viewpoints as an image and paste in a Word document or PDF for submission.
