Assignment:

Write a 1 ½ -- 2 page definition essay – refer to the guidelines and sample definition essays for further guidelines.

Definition is a useful strategy you can use in longer essays to help illustrate a point. Much like the narrative essay, you may use first person point of view. The essay may be informal, but it must be informative.

Essay must contain the following:

· Formal definition of the term or type (this will be your thesis sentence)

· At least one parenthetical definition

· Clear, well written examples

· A paragraph that demonstrates negation of the term or type

· An anecdote or brief story that illuminates the term or type

· A concluding paragraph

You may use one of the terms or types below as the subject of your essay
