ASSIGNMENT B TUTORIAL/HINTS

Going forward. Some people might want to change topic. Some people, you know, most people will stick with the topic. but then some people might want to change topic after that as well.

· We're going from assignment one which was about representation of the different factors and the elements and some of the relationships there.

*****Don't get too cut up in writing all about systems thinking,

Systems Thinking:

Is not the focus. This is not an essay about Systems Thinking.

This is an essay that uses systems thinking, and some of the terms within the concepts in the system.

So you don't need to write paragraphs about systems thinking.

You can essentially give a very brief justification about why systems thinking approach is kind of good or necessary or productive in in health care. It can be as simple as a sentence or 2 to give a rational about why we're taking this approach, but definitely don't go about systems thinking itself. We're just using the process********************************

· We're going to a more of a kind of higher-level view of this in assignment 2. So taking that kind of critical, evaluative, and analytical kind of few of each of our stages like phases or steps, or elements of our system and policy of the practice. and you will, of course, be covering 4 categories within that;

· your inputs,

· your throughputs,

· your outputs

· your outcomes.

So on the example from last year assignment, you'll see that they had impact.

· *****We don't have impact this time. I took it out to reduce, you know, 5 categories within 2,000 words

· but essentially impact is a long term outcome. Right? So you can still discuss long term outcomes in your outcomes. section. If you want. yeah, you can. You can think of outcomes as short term or medium term

· You don't have to, but that's a useful way to think about it,

· that there has to be problems or issues. It's not necessarily the case. Like most things, there are positives to it. And there are some limitations over

· challenges to running the system policy of practice. Right? So you can present that to you.

· You can, of course, discuss some of the things that are going well. For example, we have the right mix of inputs, you know, in terms of staff and funding resources facilities.

· but something is not translating down the line. You know, we're not able to provide the service in a certain way. The way we want some of the outcomes aren't or the outputs aren't matching up to our kpis, etc., so the can be a mix of things going right

· and not going to right as well.

· And then, you know in assignment 3. You can

· bounce off that as well. So your first part of assignment 3 will be discussing some of these factors that are going right. I'm not going to write.

Structure of assignment in words counts

· Please check the assignment guide/rubric I think, would be a good first place to start because it show each section of the 4 sections is weighted equally

*****That's basically it. you have 2,000 words, including your citations. So you you've been looking at roughly equal amount of words each 4 section. So let's say you had 2000 words.

200 to 300 for your introduction. and maybe somewhere around 400 each

Let's say the 200 introductions,

400 for each of those that's 1,800.

That leaves you with 200 words for references. you know, average reference is probably 20 words

that will get you 1010 citations. Right? So that's what that's what most people would be will be doing. minimum 12 references for this, this and even more.

********in the rubric it asks you to discuss, analyze, and evaluate. Could you give us a simple example of how you would do that.:

Yeah, so basically, like most things, you introduce your point. like, introduce some aspect of system policy of practice.

· then you explain it, you expand on it and you support it.

· It's some literature or some support from the literature. you examine its place within, you know, as a system component. So not just

· representation of a simple factor. But

· what is having an impact on is, what is it having an impact on? So you're drawing relationships. That's kind of the analysis that you're drawing these relationships out that exist within the system policy or practice.

· The evaluation part comes when you're saying it's working as to purpose, or it's not working as to purpose. And

· you know, these are the reasons why. So that's that sort of thing that we're looking for there. We're not just looking for description

· or just pure representation of factors. And anybody can do that right. We're looking for those higher level skills

· how did these connect to each other?

· What sort of relationship is there? What sort of story is there? How is this impacting on care. how can we? How can we solve this eventually sort of thing?********

· And what tends to happen is that students put a whole bunch of efforts into these 2 sections, inputs and throughputs. and then outputs and outcomes are kind of discussed as a sort of actual thought.

· So be careful not to to do that. I want you to really think about? What is the system? Kind of producing? What is it delivering? You know. things like Kpi, things like amount of people reached things like number of bits freed up things like waiting times.

all those could be considered. you know, outputs and then, of course, our outcomes are, it could be for staff, it could be for patients or the organization, or community as well itself. And we'll take a look at one of the readings , which kind of has shows outcomes in different

*** the point I wanted to make, so give them equal attention.

· So we start with a few examples of inputs.

*****you will have already covered some inputs, probably in your map, and in your writing as well. So now it's about choosing which ones you want to focus on. Probably the question we get a lot is. how many inputs, throughput, outputs, outcomes? Should I discuss?

****There is no set amount. But have a look at the example assignments how many they take on I would not be going over 5, I would be going somewhere between 3 and 5 for each. It depends on what you want to talk about.

· think about it's flow on effect through the system. So, for example, if you're thinking about, do I include this input, or not? How much do I have to say about it? Is there a clear kind of flow through impact on throughputs and outputs and outcomes? We don't want to have factors in isolation

· let's say you discuss some aspect of leadership. And you know the leadership team is an import right? And what that's bringing to the table. And then we don't see anything within the throughput processes activity section in which leadership has had any impact or influence.

Then we would be kind of questioning. Why, You're not following through there a logical kind of, a logical influence from input to what we actually do with that? Input? What? What is the effect of that input?

Essentially. So, these things are not in isolation. They have a role. They have a purpose.

· so that's our inputs. It can be financial resources. Some of you would have discussed legislation. That's an input, policy is an input strategic plans

*** How do I present, the inputs, you can even label each of the factors. so then, we know exactly what's coming like that.

inputs are what we have currently in place, or what we don't have. Remember all of these things as well are, human human resources as well as funding is the proper one. Of course, workforce as well. you know physical space to do what we need to do all of these sort of things

*****The diagram, is part of your words count and must be link to connect to your essay in your explanation.

OR ,if you can include it as an image, just copy and paste it on there so that it does not It counts as in your in your words count

*****Do we have to reuse the map in assignment one. No, you You don't need to use that map. You can, if you want to, or you can rejig it.

· Some people already actually have their map inputs and puts outputs, for example, could be very easily just cut and paste in from assignment

· But it might be that you don't use it.*******************
