Unit 7 Assignment

AHIMA is responsible for informing patients. AHIMA believes a public-private collaboration on a national voluntary patient safety identifier is the solution to the problem of patient matching (AHIMA, n.d.). AHIMA launched MyHealthID as well as a petition asking the White House to remove the ban that prohibits the US Department of Health and Human Services from taking parts in the efforts of finding a patient identification solution (AHIMA, n.d.). A medical practice of any kind can come in contact with some hefty trouble when making mistakes suchs as mistaking one patient for another, or not noting or paying attention to an allergy type. Confidentiality is is one of the most important things in today’s medical care. Patients want to know that their medical information will remain private and will not be given out without consent. The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) suggested limiting the amount of times one was allowed to go back and change information like medication history, or even a diagnosis. This list includes others things such as medicaiton and allergies to name a few. They wanted to make sure that Medical practices were ensuringh patient privacy and not just avoid the mistakes they have made.

While the White House decided what was best, the recommendation that was given was for there to be electronic medical records as well as paper ones. This would mean that the patient’s record would always be available when needed when they are seeking care. Asking the patient information before entering anything into the EHR would avoid having to go back and continuously changing information. AHIMA is a benifical association, in that they gaurntee the patients safteym privacy, and personal infmoration. They are devoted to patient care and make sure that they are up to date with everything, including technnolgy and law, to help better protect any person involved.
