CM 533: THEORY AND PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION
SPRING 2021 SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION MASTERS STUDIES PROGRAM
Part 6 Paper: This involves the writing of a proposal for the study of an imperative in communication or in mass communication. This will introduce the imperative; identify the imperative as an issue in communication or mass communication; provide the rationale for addressing the imperative; apply such ideas as concept, theory, and para- digm in the elaboration of it; provide a resulting, concise, authoritative specification of the issue/question/concern study will address and that springs from this elaboration; state and explain the likely answers to the addressing of the issue/question/concern; and explain the implications of that answer – the implications for academic/scholarly study, technical/professional practice, and ethical/legal/administrative policy, in communication or mass communication.
a. introduction to the area of interest or imperative; b. general statement of issue/question for resolution; c. provision of rationale for resolution of issue/question; d. “literature” / “theoretical development” related to issue/question, which leads to e. sharpened statement of, specific aspects, hypothesis on, issue/question; f. anticipated answers to issue/question/hypothesis under investigation; and g. technical/professional, academic/scholarly, and ethical/legal/policy implications/interpretations/applications of answers in sub-part “f.”
