Assignment 5: Evaluation Protocol/Processes

The Evaluation Protocol/Processes includes several components.  The Logic Model provides a visual depiction of the evaluation.  Before we determine an exact protocol/process, each candidate will explore their topic/program selected for evaluation and examine the program from a qualitative and quantitative evaluation perspective.  This assignment includes two parts.  Use Your topic to address each part.

Part 1: Select a site, preferably your school site, and some sort of technology program at the site for which you will conduct a program evaluation later this semester. After reviewing content for this activity, consider what your program evaluation's information system would be. What data sources are involved? How would data be collected? Who would be involved? What process or equipment would be necessary? What other elements of the "system" would be integral to the system working to meet your needs?

Create a model, that is a visual of some sort, representing your information system and compose a brief narrative (two or so paragraphs) describing the model. Your response should look similar to your response in Assignment 4 except, here, you are creating a model rather than locating an existing one. To create the model, use any technology application you like. The easiest would probably be any of the SmartArt illustration tools in Microsoft Word or Microsoft PowerPoint. However, any concept mapping application would also avail you of visual tools.  Bubbl.us MindMup, and Coggl e  are free, online concept mapping applications you might enjoy using, but any application is acceptable.

Part 2: Read Michael Patton’s Qualitative Evaluation Checklist posted in Moodle. Read the quantitative methodology readings on  quantitative methods qualitative vs. quantitative research , and  quantitative proposal design  and review your work. Consider what you read and your prior knowledge about quantitative research then compare that knowledge to your proposed technology program evaluation. What design seems best for your evaluation? Does a hybrid design seem appropriate?

Complete the worksheets below to analyze how qualitative and quantitative methods could work on your proposed evaluation.
