Format to turn in: Printed in class, or via Dropbox on Brightspace as a Word Document
Assignment: Pick a time period in the Paleozoic (ex. Cambrian, Ordovician, etc.), and find some information about life in Texas at the time period. Things to include:
1. Location of where Texas was (paleogeographic map). These can be found at:
a. Scotese.com
b. https://deeptimemaps.com/ (note: this are paid for maps, but do not pay from them. We have a license here in the geology department, and can use them. Come ask me for the image, or take a screen shot)
2. Climate
3. Depositional environment(s). Shallow seas with extensive carbonates? Fluvial with deltas?
4. Flora and Fauna. What are the typical fossils that are found within these units? This does not necessarily have to be specific to Texas, but what how was life at this point in time?
5. Major resources that come out of this rock series from this time period in Texas. The answer may be “none”, but state that. There are typically uses for rocks, even if they aren’t exactly obvious (like precious metals).
Turn in a 2-3 page report, plus a reference page. It needs to be:
· Double spaced
· 12 pt font
· Cited throughout
· Include figures
· Grammatically correct (the AARC is available to help! They will gladly and freely do so)
· Logical order, with an introduction, body and conclusion.
· Do not feel as if this can stifle your creativity when writing. I have had some very creative, yet accurate, stories come out of describing Earth History.
