The decline in academic performance among the students who abuse drugs is associated by certain factors. [However], there are distinct effects of drugs which contribute to the decline in performance. One of the impacts of drug use include loss of concentration among the student. With the student abusing drugs, he or she loses the needed concentration required in ensuring they pay attention to assignments and content learnt in class.
[Also], drug abuse such as hallucinogens result into negative attitude towards school and academics. This results into the student not putting the required efforts in class and in academics leading to significant decline in academic performance. [For instance], for a student using stimulant, it is likely for the student to believe that studies are difficult and course content taught too hard to understand unless they use the drugs. Such mindsets and mentality result into poor performance in class since there is no access of the drugs in school.
[In addition], drug abuse leads to school drop-out which contributes to poor academic performance. Drug use among the students also result into addiction which cause school dropout. This is resulted by getting used to the drug and they can no longer function without the use of the drugs.
III. Conclusion
A. Review of Main Points: Loss of concentration, negative attitude towards school and academics as well as increase in school drop-outs are the major impact of drug abuse among students.
B. Closure/Clincher: Therefore, there is a need to develop strategies that help in reducing drug abuse among minors and students in securing their future. It will also help in building a heathy community.
