Assignment 3 Question 1
The shelf life of a carbonated beverage is being studied. Ten bottles are randomly selected and tested, and the following results are obtained in days: 108, 124, 124, 106, 115, 138, 163, 159, 134, 139
We would like to demonstrate that the mean shelf life is equivalent to 120 days. Set up appropriate hypotheses for investigating this claim
Test these hypothesis using α = 0.05. What are your conclusions?
Determine the 95% and 99% CIs of the mean shelf life of the sample

Assignment 3 Question 2
Ten cows are fed with a special formula to determine if the formula will allow a consistent weight gain with a 3 month period. The weight of animals was recorded before and after the trial period and the results are contained in the following table.
Determine if this formula improve the weight of tested animals
This formula was compared with another low cost formula for another group of 10 cows randomly selected from the same population and the final weight obtained from this second formula is as follows: 123, 145, 154, 107, 112, 180, 174, 150, 92, 88
Is this low cost formula different from the new one tested?
| Pre | 125 | 103 | 178 | 138 | 98 | 200 | 100 | 121 | 124 | 120 |

Assignment 3 –Question 3
A new program of training is used to improve the performance of football players kicking field goals in the NFC. The first group (6 kickers) received an hour practice every day for 30 days on the new program, and then attempted 30 field goals with the number of field goals made recorded. A second group of players (6 in total) received no special training, and also attempted 30 field goals. The data is presented in the table below.
Calculate the means, variance, standard errors and CV for each group of players
Are those two samples derived from normal populations?
Did training make a difference in kickers’ performance? Set alpha = 0.05
| Trained players | 15 | 17 | 20 | 25 | 26 | 27 |
| Control group | 5 | 6 | 10 | 15 | 18 | 20 |
