MGMT 601: Assignment #2 – Role of Power in Effective Leadership - 10% of your final mark

Read the article “Role of Power in Effective Leadership” posted on the course page and write a paper discussing your understanding of the model presented and the relationship between power and leadership. Analyze concepts presented in the article and relate them to how you personally dealt with power situations in your past. To help you understand the assignment, a sample paper will be discussed.

Use the Gibbs’ Cycle to reflect on your personal experience, providing relevant examples; ensure that you clearly separate the content of different stages (see Gibbs’ Cycle summary on the course page).

· Thoroughly evaluate your actions related to three different power types outlined in the paper.

· What was the actual outcome of the situation?

· What could it have been if you acted differently?

· Remember that reflection is essential, but you must cite your sources to make this paper academic if you want marks.

· Before you write your paper, identify key elements you will be graded on in the grading rubric.

Requirements

· Write the paper using APA style with 6-8 references (i.e., many citations for each source/reference required). In addition to the textbook, including several peer reviewed references.

· Do not use other student papers to write your paper. Make sure you can go deep into ideas, because you are reading, understanding, and discussing the ideas from academic sources.

· All sources must have: authors, publication dates, and publishers included in the reference list.

· “Anonymous” authors, and sources without dates or publishers will not be accepted as valid sources and marks will be deducted (as they are not academic).

· The paper should be between 1500 – 1800 words,

· Exhibit good writing and analytical skills – review the grading rubric.

· Submit your paper via Turnitin before the due date. If you are early, you can review your Turnitin score and make the corrections necessary so that you are not plagiarising, by adding author name and year (citations) adding references at the end, page numbers were facts and statistics are used, and quotes for direct copy, and hand in your corrected assignment.

· Late submissions are penalized by 10% per day. Up to 3 days late allowed. This allows me time to mark/correct your paper, in time for you to ensure you include these corrections in your next assignment or exam.
