Assignment #2

CASE: Your company will be developing new AIRPORT PASSENGER PROCESSING SYSTEM (APPS) based on advanced IT

technology. The new airport, with APPS will eventually provide faster process time and less operating expenses.

At the “New Airport”; all passengers will get the RFID bracelet at the automated kiosk with face recognition cameras,

finger-print reader to authenticate the passenger and update the Airport database. This is the only place where

passenger will stop and wait for the machine to program RFID bracelet for his/her wrist. Then, passenger with RFID

bracelet never stops until seating in the aircraft. All required controls (ID control, boarding pass control, gate and seat

control to make sure the passenger never goes to wrong flight) will be done while the passenger is walking from parking

lot to seat on the aircraft.

Airport has four different terminals (from parking lots and drop off locations). In each entry point (control station), there

will be new APPS with face recognition cameras, finger-print recording stations, customer RFID readers.

Your IT company has a private DATACENTER in NYC where;

• One database to record each passenger info and the assigned RFID for each airport

• One database to record each flight and gate numbers for each airport

• One database to record all purchased tickets for each airport

• One data processing computer to authenticate and match the passenger with the aircraft and the seat for each

airport

All APPS at the all four entry points (terminals) of the airport are connected to this DATACENTER. The data center is not

in the airport, it is in your company’s DATACENTER in NYC. All APPS at the all four entry points are connected to this

DATACENTER.

QUESTIONS

Question 1: New APPS has to be installed in all entry points of the Airport. What are approaches to installation of new

IT system into the airport? Which one is the most expensive? Which one is the riskiest? Which installation technique

you would use? Why?

Question 2: In near future, APPS seems

to become very popular. Airport owners

and managers have asked the question of

if your company can provide IT help-desk

functions 24/7. What is you plan for fast

growing demand for IT help-desk? Would

consider to outsource? List the Pro and

cons of outsourcing IT Help and support

your answer.

Question 3: In near future, APPS seems

to become very popular. And, there will

be five Airports with APPS in 18 months. This fast growth in Airport numbers is of course good for your IT company, but

your company mangers’ worried about the current data center. The current data center cannot handle this fast growth,

it can handle only two Airports. And, it will take more than 24 months to expand the current data center to provide

service to five airports. They need your help for the solution. Consider the APPS IT system and the expectations from the

management in near future. Which sections / components / services would be achieved by Cloud Computing?

a) List the IT components /Services that can be moved to Cloud Computing.

b) List the IT components that can be done by on site data canter (not Cloud Computing) and write the reason for

not caring over to the cloud.

Question 4: APP training is the part of the service agreement between your IT Company and the Airport Management

company. Therefore, your IT Company should provide training services to;

a) Users (passengers)

b) Airport managers

c) IT staff members where all have different training needs.

Provide the training topics for three different groups.
