Essay:

How to avoid unemployment

How can a person avoid unemployment? Unemployment is a serious problem in many

of the world’s countries. It can have a devastating effect on people and make them feel useless

and unproductive. A person can stay away from unemployment by having good education,

work experience, and avoiding bad friends.

The first step to eliminate the risk of unemployment is to get a degree. Any type of

degree is good; however, college degree would open more doors and provide more chances

than a high school diploma would. For example, a bank would more likely hire a college

graduate than a high school graduate. Unemployment rates for college graduates are always

lower than high school graduates. According to the data collected by National Center of

Educational Statistics (n.d.), “In 2019, the employment rate was higher for those with higher

levels of educational attainment. The employment rate for those with some college was higher

than the rate for those who had completed high school.” No matter if you are a school or college

student, you should work hard, attend classes, and develop your skills.

The second step that can ensure that there is a job waiting for a student after graduation

is to get work experience as an intern. In other words, work experience is another tool that

attracts full-time job offers. Having work experience can greatly increase the chances of being

employed. For instance, restaurant management would be more willing to accept a person who

has worked in his or her father’s diner than a person with zero work experience on CV.

The third and the last step is to avoid bad friends. Bad friends can lead a student away

from his or her path. This might consequently lead to getting bad grades, which will, in turn,

make it harder for the student to get the degree and lessen the opportunities to get employed.

For example, if a student has a clear goal, this toxic friendship might provoke him or her to

stay up late, hang out, and be lazier. As a result, the person will be wasting his or her time

aimlessly instead of getting ready for the next day of work or studies.

To sum up, avoiding unemployment can be achieved by getting a high school/college

degree, having prior knowledge about workplaces, and avoiding distractions. If you follow

these three steps, you will increase your chances of avoiding unemployment.
