CON-CNE 455/545 ASSIGNMENT #2 (DUE: Tuesday, February 12, 2019)
“MEASURING PRODUCTIVITY”
QUESTION ONE – EXCAVATION OF FOOTING PIERS The MPDM data collection sheet (Table 1) includes the field results of the excavation of footing piers for a new administration building. The cycle begins with the excavation of soil and continues through dumping of material and ends when the dozer returns ready to reload (Figure 1). Twenty production cycles were observed. The resources involved in the process are one crawler dozer and an equipment operator. While excavating, moving, and dumping soil for future footings, the operator encountered several delays. Perform a complete Method Productivity Delay analysis. QUESTION TWO – POURING FOOTINGS FOR AN ELEVATOR SHAFT The MPDM data collection sheet (Table 2) includes the field results of concrete pouring for footings of an elevator shaft at a new physical therapy facility. The footings form a rectangular perimeter encompassing approximately 180 sq. ft. of the construction site (Figure 2) and require 14.5 cu. yd. of concrete and reinforcement. A crane and bucket method is used for pouring because the layout of the footings is too deep and far to be reached by a truck. Additionally, due to the depth and rough excavation, laborers using rubber tired buggies was also not an option. A single ½ cu. yd. bucket was used for this pour. An eight man crew including two ironworkers, two labourers, and four carpenters. A cycle is defined as the time required to lift a filled bucket, pour the concrete, return to the fill site, and refill the bucket. Perform a complete Method Productivity Delay analysis.
