Assignment 1: Website Evaluation

Using the “Questions to ask for source evaluation” link found in Week 1’s module (also included here: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/managing-care/using-trusted-resources) read through the information and questions on the site and follow the instructions below:

On this site you will find 7 questions to ask/answer about a website. You will answer each question about three (3) websites that all deal with the same topic. You should choose your topic from one of the topics we will be covering over the course of the semester.

Please choose 3 DIFFERENT domains from the 5 below when picking a website to evaluate (this means 3 different ones):

.com, .org, .gov, .net, and .edu.

For example, if you choose the topic “Keto Diets” you will find 3 sites about the ketogenic diet. Maybe you’ll have a .COM, a .ORG and a .GOV that all give information regarding diets. The more you narrow your topic, the better your assignment will be. For example, if you choose a big, broad topic like diets the websites you find will probably be overwhelmingly large and hard to navigate. If you choose “keto diet” you will have better luck with finding some sites that are specific.

After you have answered the questions from the website for each of the three sites you choose, write a summary (1-2 paragraphs) about which of the sites you chose should be considered credible sources and why.
