Assignment 1

There is a written assignment due this week.  Please review Topic 1 – Public Policy, Public Administration, and Governing; Elected vs. Appointed Officials. You will read the assignment to follow and complete the Directions:

· This assignment is one assignment divided into two parts.

· You will identify an elected official and an appointed official in your area. As an example, you may choose the mayor of your city and an appointed position would be the city manager.

· You will synthesize the information by using the literature to support your claims.

· You should list all references used at the end of each part as well as, in-text citations when needed. All citations must be in APA format.

Part One - List an individual, their position held, and explain the role of that person plays in policy making. Please select and Elected Official and an Appointed Official.

Part Two – In 250-500 words, discuss the similarities in the policy making process of the roles listed above. Compare and contrast the elected and appointed official. Consider how each gains the position, the role of each, and how they can affect policy. Please see the assignment for complete details. 

To avoid plagiarized material, all designated assignments must be submitted to TURNITIN (TII) and the assignment dropbox for grading by the deadline (see instructions).

· No assignment will be graded if not submitted to TII with a score of no more than 20% similarity.

· Assignments not submitted to TII are also penalized. They will be returned and not graded or subject to a 50& point loss if allowed to be submit to TII after posting.

· Late assignments lose 10% daily on available remaining points. Please contact me if you experience a crisis (university approved) and need an extension at least three days before the due date.

· Convert all work to a version of Microsoft Word. Utilize the student success Center, read the style guide, and use the course, resources, rubric and tutorials for required expectations. Adobe or PDF, etc., cannot be graded)

· Assignments submitted after the final day of class and has no TII report attached automatically losses 50% points if accepted.
